Cover photograph: Hematoxylin and eosin-stained brain sections from day 7 Plasmodium berghei ANKA-infected mice treated with antibody-mediated interleuken-10 receptor (IL-10R). The antibody treatment enhanced virulence in this rodent malaria model, as the numbers of brain petechial hemorrhages were significantly higher in anti-IL-10R-treated mice than in untreated control mice. This study demonstrates that that antibody-mediated blockade of the IL-10R during P. berghei infection in BALB/c mice resistant to experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) is associated with increased incidence of ECM.
