  • a S. mutans 3209 cultures, either wt or gbpA mutant, were allowed to grow, stationary or while rotating, for 5 h in the presence of sucrose and [3H]thymidine, after which the vials were either rinsed or vortexed prior to rinsing. Adherent bacteria were quantified by scintillation counting and reported here as counts per minute ± standard deviations. Boldface numbers are statistically higher (P < 0.05) than others in the same column (n = 9).
