  • a Monolayers of HT29, T84, and Caco-2 cells were grown on microporous membranes (Transwell; Costar) and infected with 103 infective larvae of T. spiralis or 107 CFU of L. monocytogenes per ml. After 7 h of infection, culture supernatants in the lower compartments were collected and levels of secreted IL-8 were measured by sandwich ELISA. The experiments were repeated twice.
